形态描述：直立亚灌木或灌木，高0.6-1(-1.5)米；茎四棱形，密被糙伏毛，分枝或不分枝。叶片坚纸质，长圆状披针形或卵状披针形，顶端渐尖，基部心形至钝，长(5-) 7-13厘米，宽（1.5-）2.5-3.8厘米，全缘，具缘毛，两面密被糙伏毛，5基出脉，叶面基出脉下凹，侧脉不明显，背面基出脉隆起，侧脉微隆起；叶柄极短，长1-4毫米，密被糙伏毛。由聚伞花序组成圆锥花序，顶生，长5-8厘米或更长；苞片叶状，小苞片2，紧包萼基部，宽卵形，长约1.3厘米，具缘毛，外面中脉被糙伏毛，两侧被细绢毛，里面无毛；花梗短或几无；花萼长约2厘米，萼管外面及裂片间具蓖状刺毛突起，裂片5，长卵形，顶端渐尖，与萼管等长，两面无毛，具缘毛；花瓣5，红色至粉红色，稀紫红色，广倒卵形，偏斜，顶端圆形，具点尖头，长1.5-2.5厘米，上半部具缘毛；雄蕊10，常偏向1侧，花丝较花药略长，花药具短喙，药隔基部微膨大呈盘状，有短距；子房卵状球形，5室，顶端具1圈短刚毛，上半部密被糙伏毛。蒴果卵状球形，5纵裂，长约8毫米，直径约6毫米，上半部密被糙伏毛；宿存萼坛形，顶端平截，长约8毫米，外面具密篦状刺毛突起。花期8-10月，果期9-12月。
